A user poll conducted by iYogi showed that 43% of Windows® users would require extra technical support as they move to Windows® 7. iYogi, an on-demand tech services company, announced that 36% of consumers expect to upgrade to Windows® 7 on their existing PC. However, 68% are not entirely comfortable that they will be able to easily move their favorite applications over to the new platform. Nearly half (43%) expressed the need for greater tech support to move their favorite applications over to Windows®7.

These facts are among the results of a poll of more than 500 consumers regarding adoption and application plans and predictions around the upcoming launch of the Windows® 7 OS.

Upgrade plans look healthy, with 28% expecting to move to Windows® 7 this year alone. When asked what one word describes how they feel about the upcoming launch, 31% said “excited”.

“We are very encouraged by the growing anticipation of the Windows® 7 operating system, and from what we have seen it represents a significant improvement in the user interface and manageability for users,” said Vishal Dhar, President of Marketing & Co-founder of iYogi. “However, our surveys show that more than 40%—potentially tens of millions of people—will require additional computer support assistance of some kind this year.”

Additional survey findings revealed that:

  • 61% think they will upgrade to Windows® 7 at some point
  • 48% will make the move by the end of 2010
  • 35% think that difficulties in porting their favorite applications over to Windows® 7 will discourage them from moving to the new operating system
  • More current Windows Vista® users (35%) are excited about the upcoming Windows® launch than Windows® XP users (29%) iYogi has more has more than 90,000 annual subscribers and provides thousands of single incident sessions every day on a 24/7 basis.
