Solutions for Overheating in Toshiba® Computers

Guidance on Toshiba computer overheating

With the continued use of desktops and laptops, over a period of time, you may result in system downtimes either due to software conflict, viruses, hardware malfunction, overheating among other causes. Of these, system heating is of major concern to most users as it can result in serious damage if the causes are not checked on time. Toshiba laptops are no exception to heating problems. To avoid incurring an extra cost by making constant trips to the computer technician’s shop, users can equip themselves with basic trouble shooting ideas to identify the causes of computer overheating and how to solve them.

The nature and the possible overheating causes in Toshiba computer and the solution to it, is discussed here:

  • Causes of computer heating
  • Solving heating problems
  • Safety measures

Causes of computer heating

The first and probable cause of computer overheating is hardware upgrades. When the user decides to upgrade the micro processor, CPU over clocking will be the first outcome leading to a lot of heat generation. Other than CPU, graphics card, and RAM upgrades may also lead to heating issues. Latest graphic card technology demands a lot of processor and memory requirements causing them to work overtime than usual. For RAM to function, it has to be powered. With an upgrade, it will mean that more power will have to be generated to support the additional RAM.

Software too can cause the system to heat, the reason being they are stored in the system’s hard disk which is a mechanical device with read/write heads used to locate the sectors and tracks where they are stored. When the gaming applications and antivirus are run, they have to access the hard disk thus causing more power to be used to run the read/write heads. Screen savers with sounds and graphics are another cause that most users are not aware of. When the system is idle and the screen saver comes on, for the sound and graphics to be output, power has to be used. Other factors that may result into system heating are the accumulation of dust within the system creating a good environment to store heat. Using the system for long hours without break causes more power to be used thus overheating.

Solving heating problems

To prevent build up of dust in the system, users should regularly use an air compressor to blow off dusts that have built over time. Applications i.e. antivirus should be set to run at least once a day automatically to avoid instances where the users run the program at any given time. When using screen savers, use blank screen savers to graphic and sound based ones. The user should also be in the habit of taking breaks while using the system to give the system time to cool down.

Safety measures

System upgrades are inevitable and cannot be avoided. In such cases, laptop cooling accessories can come in handy when using the laptop to aid the system to cool down. Avoid installing many gaming applications as these make use of the hard disk quite often, when being run causing the system to overheat.
